Shopping With AI: Research, Recommendations, And The Move Toward ChatGPT

Amidst all the chatter about Google losing ground to AI in search, it’s important to remember results matter.

And for 1 in 4 online shoppers, ChatGPT is offering better results when it comes to shopping, giving better product suggestions than Google.

According to recent Omnisend research, more than half of U.S. consumers use generative AI tools for shopping (at least once a month), specifically for product research, product recommendations, and searching for deals. 65% say ChatGPT is “their go-to assistant” along with the 25% who prefer it over Google, with Omnisend offering one idea about the shift away from the once-dominant tech giant.

“Googling often means ads, SEO content, and dozens of open tabs before you find what you need,” says Ominsend’s Marty Bauer. “Gen AI tends to act like a knowledgeable friend — it distills, summarizes, and points you in the right direction without the noise.”
